Whitethrone was easily the largest place I had ever seen, like several towns laid end-to-end, but even so, it was clear to me that it was not a prosperous place. Indeed, how could it ever be? It was a harsh place, with harsh weather, harsh rules, harsh rulers, downtrodden people, the list goes on and on.

Rangeer led us to a side door in an unremarkable building, but once we passed through a corridor it opened up into a warm, gentle garden. This was the temple belonging to the summer cult, and it contained the priestess whose help we needed if we were to gain access to Baba Yaga’s hut.

We met with someone important, whome I guessed to be our contact, and after several minutes babbling in the foreign tongue they speak here she suddenly started speaking common. At last, communication in a civilised tongue!

As she carried on talking I almost wished she had refrained from the switch. It seemed that in order for them to agree to help us get to the hut we had to go on a mission to help them first. Well, technically we would have to go on the mission anyway, but we did so at her behest in order to rescue one of her acolytes on the way. It seemed we had to assault a tower that was guarded not only by trolls, but we also had to kill a white dragon that would otherwise prove too hard to defeat in the open.

Although I was obviously reluctant to take on a dragon, it seemed there was no other way. Especially if we wished to save the girl. So we agreed, and after a restless evening made our way to the tower.

The tower was, by all appearances, a clock tower rising out of a building. As time was of the essence we decided to directly assault the front gate, which we made it to with no difficulty. However, when Idrin opened the door two statues burst to life and attacked us. I managed to intercept my spear and catch one a heavy blow as it approached, but the tip of my spear bent over! No longer having the room to swing it anyway, I dropped it and manifested my claws, tearing into the metallic body that was attacking me. With Andrei‘s help I managed to defeat the one facing us, but then barely had time to threaten the other before Idrin’s axe ended its existence.

Emboldened by the easy kills we went inside and in a side room found two trolls asleep on a bed. Our opening the door had woken one of them, so we swarmed it and slew it as the other one awoke. Switching our attention to the new threat we piled punishment upon it, and when the first one had regenerated enough to rise Andrei and I reflexively dropped it again before it could attack. Sven cast an acid bolt at the fallen one, which stopped regenerating, and we dropped the other one so that Benedictus could flame strike it, ending that one as well.

The next room we entered held two trolls eating lunch. Recognising the remains as being obviously human I attacked in a rage. It seemed, though, that my temper proved to be a bit of my undoing as I just could not seem to hit my opponents, having to rely on Andrei and Idrin to put them down, with Sven stopping them from coming back and Benedictus pulsing heals to reduce the effect of the damage they had inflicted upon us. Praise be to Sarenrae!

With almost all our battle damage repaired, we made our way deeper into the tower.
